Vaccinations For HorsesWhen it comes to horses, there are a wide range of diseases plaguing their world. Fortunately, there is existence of vaccinations that will no doubt reduce the risk of being affected with these diseases. Vaccinating horses on a regular basis is extremely important, no matter if you’re leaving them to pasture or not. Rhinopneumonitis and Influenza These two diseases affect the respiratory tract of horses directly. Its symptoms highly resemble the human influenza virus. The duration of vaccinations to the horses that is recommended by your vet totally depends on how often you prefer traveling on your horse. Tetanus This disease is a severe bacterial infection and is contracted via the open wounds. Whenever your horse critically lacerates or punctures itself, you should ensure that your horse has been recently vaccinated with the tetanus boosters. Tetanus is such a strong bacterial infection that is responsible for damaging the nervous system and brain of many horses. Its symptoms are intense sensitivity to touch and tremors in the jaw and neck muscles. Generally, veterinarians recommend the horse to be vaccinated once a year, at least. Equine Encephalomyelitis In the world of equine, there are 3 different encephalomyelitis illnesses. They are Eastern Encephalomyelitis (EEE), Venezuelan Encephalomyelitis (VEE), and Western Encephalomyelitis (WEE). These diseases affect the VEE Horses via mosquito bites. These diseases destroy the brain by attacking the nervous system. It’s highly recommended for all the horses in southern US to be vaccinated with these 3 vaccinations at least once a year. However, VVE is usually not necessary for the horses in US’s northern region. |
